History and Mission Statement
The American Mutual Life Association is a fraternal benefit society formerly known as the Slovenian Mutual Benefit Association or its Slovenian equivalent, Slovenska Dobrodelna Zveza.  It was organized in 1910 by a group of Slovenian immigrants in Cleveland, Ohio, then as now the home of the largest concentration of Slovenians anywhere outside of Slovenia.
The Mission of the American Mutual Life Association is                
  1. To provide mutual aid, protection and security for its members and their families through affordable insurance and stable financial products
  2. To promote, preserve and perpetuate the common bond of Slovenian language, heritage and culture
  3. To sponsor fraternal activities for the benefit of its members
  4. To support those communities wherein its membership resides through acts of benevolence and volunteerism

 

What is AMLA?

AMLA is an acronym for the American Mutual Life Association.  As a fraternal benefit society, AMLA is a tax exempt organization under Section 501(c)(8) of the Internal Revenue Code.  AMLA is licensed only in the State of Ohio.  It is a member in good standing of the National Fraternal Congress of America, the natonal trade association for fraternal benefit societies, and of the Ohio Fraternal Congress.  There are currently over 9,000 members of AMLA.

 

How Do I Become a Member?

 

Membership in AMLA is open to persons of Slovenian extraction, their spouses or any other persons, regardless of national origin, who subscribe to the Association's Declaration of Principles and support its Mission to perpetuate the common bond of Slovenian language, heritage and culture.  Membership is only conferred upon the purchase of a certificate of life insurance.
